Perspective is crucial because it shapes how we perceive and understand the world, influencing our thoughts, emotions, and actions. It allows us to understand diverse opinions, cultures, and experiences, fostering empathy and critical thinking. By considering different viewpoints, we can gain new insights, find creative solutions, and build stronger relationships

Through My Son’s Eyes

The muse of my life is my only child, my son. He has been the driving force behind trying to be my best, my most profound thoughts and almost all of my most meaningful experiences. He is amazing and wonderful and as he gets closer and closer to 18, I wonder what does the world look like through his eyes?

This piece, Through My Son’s Eyes, is based on a moment he had in Glacier National Park. We were half-way through a hike in the park, it had been raining almost the entire hike, it was chilly, grey and honestly somewhat miserable but when we made it to Avalanche Lake the skies opened up. Sun, warmth, and blue skies brightened my mood, but what about him?

He sat on a log, tired of his parents and forced hiking, when this tiny little butterfly joined him and stayed while he rested, uninterested in anyone else. This piece represents my son’s view as he watched the butterfly walk along his fingertips and the view past his small companion. What were they thinking, that butterfly and that boy? What was their perspective? Their view of the world around them?

Through My Son’s Eyes strives to answer those questions but never will because I will at no time see or feel the world through their perspective. My only hope is that they both delighted in the respite from rain, the warmth of the sun and felt at peace with the world, if only for that moment.
